The Lodges

In a first for the North East, Unbox at Poplar Tree offers four unique self-catering holiday lodges created lovingly from twin-linked converted shipping containers carefully wrapped in beautiful cedar offering panoramic views of the open countryside with floor to ceiling glazing and a private raised entrance deck.

Each one-bedroom lodge comprises a full kitchen and bathroom with a generous open plan living space with sofa bed providing a luxurious stay for 2 people but also offering the flexibility to sleep 3 or 4 guests.

We set out to offer a unique self-catering holiday accommodation experience in Durham by providing effortless luxury in a spectacular location.

Situated in the grounds of the incredible Poplar Tree Garden Centre, Unbox at Poplar Tree is located only minutes from the heart of Durham City Centre yet boasts spectacular uninterrupted views of rolling countryside with hours' worth of riverside walks right on the doorstop.

Ever popular, historic Shincliffe village has two fabulous local pubs, an award-winning curry house just over the bridge and direct access to the heart of the city centre. Bounded by the River Wear, you can either be in Durham city centre within 5 minutes or set off on a 2-hour plus stroll along the protected river banks in the company of otters, kingfishers and barn owls.

Poplar Tree Garden Centre is a local, family-owned and family-run venture with a 50 year history on the site and is a cornerstone of the local community. With both Brambles Coffee Shop and a host of seasonal plants on offer throughout the year, the business is a much loved and visited destination in the North East.
